In Nîmes, opposite the two-millennia-old arena, the Musée de la Romanité invites visitors to the “historic experience”. It presents 25 centuries of history with 5000 exceptional archaeological pieces in 65 multimedia displays for a totally immersive experience (interactive maps, large-scale audiovisual technology, etc.). See life in a Gallic house, plus Roman mosaics with colourful, recreated mural decorations and objects from everyday life. You can admire the Arena behind the ramparts, exactly as if you were there 2000 years ago, and follow the influence of Roman culture down the centuries.
April 26, 2024 – January 5, 2025: Achilles and the Trojan War
Achilles, the legendary hero of Greek mythology who distinguished himself by his bravery and valour during the Trojan War, is the protagonist of this fascinating exhibition! Through representations (mosaics, vases, sarcophagi, etc.), follow the hero’s itinerary through the key episodes of his life, from his birth to the walls of Troy, via his escape to the island of Skyros, and finally his death caused by an arrow shot through the heel. An epic that also looks back at the origins of the Trojan War, to be discovered through a selection of 100 works and a monumental digital fresco specially created for the exhibition.
